smoothie bowls
So many flavors. so many options.
In the summer time, these become a STAPLE in our kitchen food supply. Cold, delicious, and nutrient dense, these smoothie bowls are even kid friendly!
There’s just 2 tricks to making these delights, which I will expound upon shortly -
Knowing how to “build” a smoothie bowl to have the taste and consistency of almost an ice cream.
How to add a boost of protein in a natural way that makes this more of a “meal” to satiate, rather than just a “snack” with more cravings in the short term.
First, to build smoothie bowls, you will need A LOT of frozen fruit. We make these for our family of 5 but feel free to double or half the ratios based on your needs.
Add 1-2 FROZEN banana
Add 2 cups FROZEN fruit (any choice)
Add extra nutritionals (e.g. frozen veggies, powders)… this is where that collagen powder comes in to play!
Add 1/4 cup of liquid (I like kefir, almond milk, or OJ)
And blend (make sure you have a high quality blender)
That’s it!
Now a heads up - I have used protein powder before, and while I personally don’t mind it, some may find the texture a bit too gritty. So an unflavored collagen powder has been the perfect balance for not messing up the taste or texture, while still enhancing the nutritiousness that fuels our bodies!
Down below is a list of some different kinds you can find and use that we love. But feel free to experiment if there’s a flavor you want to try that isn’t on the list below, and let me know how it goes!
