The Standard American Diet (S.A.D.)
What if I told you that you really are what you eat!
Fried foods. Sugary treats. Dairy. Soft drinks. Processed. High glycemic index. Inflammation. Gas/Bloating.
What do all of these have in common?
They are all part of the mainstream American diet. If not the norm, definitely a staple. And it truly is sad (or will lead to sadness). I'm not saying you can't go out and enjoy a family meal together, or have a tasty treat/snack that you thoroughly enjoy every now and again (unless you chose to abstain completely). What I am saying though is that I hear so many people say:
"I could never give that up!" or "That's too much for me to change." or "I could never go without ___."
And then if not sooner, definitely later they are sharing about how they are struggling with a physical or mental ailment. What if I told you that you really are what you eat! What if I told you that in seven years you will have a completely new set of cells that make up your body, and those cells are all made from the food you eat. So if you eat crappy quality food, they you will have crappy cells in your body (AS your body!). If you make good food choices today, then you will have high quality, resilient, vibrant cells for a body.
You can tell yourself those excuses of why you can never live without those heavily processed foods long term, but then you WILL be paying for it sooner or later. What do you love more - being able to be active with your kids, or your doughnuts? Do you love your "crutch" more than you love those things that give you "life?" That should be the easiest answer of all. . . once you recognize your priorities then the answer is super simple! If your priorities is yourself and your indulgences, then the excuses come easy. If your priorities is your [future] self and those around you, then the choice becomes easier.
Remember it took you 7 years to get to where you are today. What you do today will affect your next 7 years. It's never too late!
