Detox

Detox?

Isn’t that, like, where you just drink juice or something crazy like that?

Yes and no.

It definitely can be that, but it just depends on what your goals are and what you are TRYING to detoxify in your body. There's candida cleanses, parasite cleanses, colon cleanses, GI Tract cleanses (check out my supps for a good gut cleanse!).

Have you ever done a temporary fast before? This detox in this post is a lot like that. This “detox” helps set your body up for success without depriving yourself of the foods you love in the long run. Instead, this will jump start your body’s metabolism to start effectively burning fat, retain muscle mass, and curb your cravings for a more sustainable and healthy relationship with food.

Here’s how it works:

I want you to think of this as what you CAN eat and not necessarily what you CANNOT eat. . . although there will definitely seem to be plenty as you get into it. The point of this detox is to fill your body with all the right kinds of foods – like fresh/frozen fruits & vegetables, whole grains (i.e. pasta/bread/rice/tortillas), legumes, healthy fats (including nuts), and lean meats (no red meat) – while temporarily fasting the wrong kinds of foods – like unhealthy fats, sugars, alcohol, and anything processed or packaged. Finally, DRINK WATER! Specifically aim for a gallon a day. It sounds like a lot, but trust me, your body needs it. Additional Goals: aim to have one serving more of veggies over fruit each day; you will get greater benefit eating more non-starchy veggies (e.g. broccoli/kale/peppers/cucumbers/etc.) over starchy veggies (e.g. potatoes/squash/peas/etc.). For packaged items, make sure the fiber and protein combined is higher than the sugar. Please see the food guide at the end of the post for specifics.

The one thing I DON’T want you to do is limit the good foods you will be eating. Listen to your body. If you are hungry, eat more. If you are full, stop eating. [Which should be your guide always anyway.] If you eat something "good" but your body doesn't like it, then LISTEN.

Because you will be eating clean you will not (under these circumstances) need to restrict the calories you consume. Don’t use this as an opportunity to indulge in “No No” foods because no one will see it. This is only for 21 days so really make it count! So enjoy your break from tracking your food for the next 21 days :p

Whether you’re like me and prefer to eat the same things every day, or if you like to switch it up with a little more variety, you can still eat delicious foods during this detox! It will just take a little more planning and prep work on your part to make sure you have the right ingredients.

Take the challenge and I'd love to see your results after! (I highly recommend taking a Before/After)
